K9 Perspectives - Services

Services

I provide evidence-based, welfare-first behavioural support for dogs, working closely with their families to understand why a dog behaves the way it does and creating tailored plans to improve behaviour, wellbeing, and quality of life. I also support puppies and adolescent dogs to build emotional stability and prevent future challenges.

As Head of Welfare & Behaviour for Helpful Hounds Assistance Dogs, I train Assistance Dogs and assess and place Community Dogs, while overseeing the welfare and behaviour of all dogs. I also deliver confidence-building workshops and educational talks for schools and care homes to raise awareness and understanding of our work.

Puppy & Adolescent Behaviour Support & Prevention

I provide evidence-based, welfare-first support for puppies and adolescent dogs, helping them build confidence, emotional stability and strong foundations for positive behaviour. Sessions focus on socialisation, core skills and preventing future behavioural challenges, tailored to your dog’s age, developmental stage and family environment.

Each session includes a concise written guide summarising key strategy plus three months of follow-up via email to support ongoing progress.

Helpful Hounds

Assistance & Community Dogs

At Helpful Hounds Assistance Dogs, as head trainer of welfare and behaviour, I train Assistance Dogs to support individuals with disabilities, including medical alert and task-specific work. The charity is a candidate member of Assistance Dogs International (ADI), ensuring all our dogs meet the highest standards of welfare, behaviour and task reliability.

Dog Familiarisation Workshops for Children

I deliver confidence-building workshops and ongoing sessions for children, helping those who feel nervous around dogs or want to learn safe, respectful interaction. These sessions go beyond a simple school visit – using a structured, SEN-informed framework, they actively support emotional safety, learning goals and existing educational or therapeutic approaches.

Children learn about dog body language, welfare and well-being, gaining confidence through gentle, supported exposure. Sessions can be tailored for SEN settings and schools and work alongside counsellors, therapists and other child-focused professionals.

My Process

Behaviour consultations

All behaviour cases require a veterinary referral, as medical issues can often underlie behavioural problems. A referral confirms your pet’s health has been checked and that I come recommended for my experience and qualifications. Please speak with your vet about your concerns, they can send me a referral form directly.

Here’s how I typically work with clients, to make things transparent and clear:

What to Expect from a Behaviour Consultation

Free Discovery Call
A short phone or video chat to discuss your dog’s challenges, your goals, and how I can help.

Vet Referral & History Form
Your vet confirms your dog’s health, and you complete a behaviour history form so we can focus fully on behaviour.

Consultation
A 2–3 hour in-depth session looking at your dog’s background, current concerns, and practical management strategies.

Personalised Plan
Within a few days, you’ll receive a tailored behaviour plan with clear steps and goals, plus a week of follow-up support.

Ongoing Support
We’ll work together to put the plan into practice, using evidence-based methods such as desensitisation and counter-conditioning.

Review & Progress
We check in, celebrate successes, and adjust the plan as needed to keep you and your dog moving forward.

This process keeps your dog’s welfare at the heart of everything while ensuring you feel supported and confident every step of the way.
